Center-Consoles are the most popular and common types of boats on the water today due to their versatility. Typically anywhere from 13 to 30 feet, owners will use their boat in a variety of ways from fresh and saltwater fishing to cruising to anchoring at a sandbar, and sometimes all of them in the same trip. Center-Consoles are typically very fuel efficient boats that are easily maneuverable, not too costly with service, and can be trailered to different destinations. 1 or 2 outboard engines are typically used on center-consoles for these same reasons, as statistical data shows outboards now make up over 60% of the boating market.

For the last 25 years, center-consoles have continued to grow in size, capabilities, and price. 5 outboard engines can now be found on massive 60-foot plus luxury center-console yachts that exceed a $1 million price tag. From the Gulfstream Yachts 66 to the HCB 65 Estrella, custom center-console manufacturers seem to be pushing the barriers of what it means to be in this class of boats. Even traditional, production manufacturers like Boston Whaler and Grady-White have come out with 40-foot plus center-consoles that come with luxurious interiors with cabins, televisions, galleys, and more.

Another trend in center-console construction  is to use a foam core and advanced composite materials in the hull. The result is a lighter, more durable boat that becomes unsinkable due to the foam core. Brands like Everglades Boats use a closed molded construction process with high-quality vinyl-ester laminates to make the unsinkable hull. Both Boston Whaler and Grady-White build their center-consoles in a very similar way. And with these lighter, stronger boats also comes more and more power. It's not uncommon to see big center-consoles with 4 or 5 350HP outboards that push the boat to speeds of more than 60 knots. Owners look the freedom of captaining their own boat and outfitting their center-console with the power, electronics, and amenities they want. You can now even get a Seakeeper Gyro for stabilization inside the larger center-console models.

Center-console brands like Yellowfin, Intrepid, and Contender have specifically targeted the hardcore angler by loading their boats with tons of cutting-edge fishing options. These tournament fishing boats are still good for cruising, but owners can run hundreds of miles into the gulf stream on these boats to chase big fish. Massive live-wells, an abundance of rod holders, and oversized fish-boxes are just a few of the selling features on these brands.
